What would happen if you died without a Will? In British Columbia, your assets would be divided in accordance with the Estate Administration Act. This could be completely different from how you had wished. Even if you do not have children and have all your assets with "right of survivorship to your spouse", it is highly recommended that you still have a Will in place. For example, if you and your spouse died together while travelling, the youngest spouse is deemed to have survived the other. All the jointly held assets may pass to his or her family members only. This may not be the way you intended. In any case, you are encouraged to seek advice of a Notary Public whom you can trust. Let us help you settle your estate the way you want it to be settled.
